Forward Deployed Engineer
About the company
Enterprise teams in retail and consumer goods still copy data between systems all day, chase work through email and legacy UIs, and patch the gaps by hand. We're building the AI operations platform that finishes that work: AI agents that execute end-to-end processes across UIs and APIs, with governance built in.
We're a venture-backed Series A company of around 70 people, working with large enterprise retailers and CPG brands, and expanding fast.
The role
Forward Deployed Engineers are how we bring AI to life inside our customers. Think solution architect with real post-sale client engagement: you sit with a customer, work out what's actually broken, and ship something that runs against their real systems.
You won't write the core product. You'll write the glue: integration scripts, agent configurations, data transformations and prototypes, whatever it takes to get an agent running in a customer's actual stack. Business judgment matters more here than deep specialism; our platform is teachable, commercial instinct isn't.
What you'll do
Scope with senior customer stakeholders: run discovery with CTOs, CROs, SVPs and operators, and work out what's worth automating, what's worth fixing first and what's blocked.
Ship agents against real systems: configure and deploy agents across ERPs, portals, spreadsheets, email and custom tools, and write the integration code that makes them work.
Run POCs that convert: work alongside our commercial team so pilots turn into production deployments.
Finish the job: test the logic, wire the alerts, make writes idempotent, and demo it running, not just the impressive layer.
Show the business value: be able to say clearly what changed for the customer, in their numbers.
Make every deployment faster: capture reusable patterns, templates and runbooks, and feed recurring needs back to Product and Engineering.
What you bring
External, commercial customer-facing experience: you've worked with named enterprise customers of a software product, scoped with economic buyers and been in the room. Internal rollouts, field or ticket support, and build-and-handoff contracts aren't the same thing.
Venture-backed startup or scale-up experience (ideally Seed to Series B): you're used to ambiguity, scarce resources and moving fast. Enterprise backgrounds work where there's genuine hyper-growth experience too.
Versatile technical range: comfortable with Python or JS, SQL, APIs, JSON and webhooks, and able to pick up a new system quickly. Generalists over single-solution experts.
AI-native as a working habit: hands-on with LLMs, agent frameworks, evals, MCP and retrieval, and you reach for AI first by default.
Engineering follow-through: you ship things that are tested, observable and production-ready.
Strong plus: forward-deployed or solutions engineering at an AI startup, a background at Palantir, McKinsey / QuantumBlack or similar, co-founder or entrepreneurial experience, or retail, e-commerce, CPG or supply-chain domain knowledge. Around four to five years of experience is fine for the right profile.
