Android Platform Engineer (CPE / STB)
The opportunity
A major Polish telecommunications operator is looking for an Android Platform Engineer to join the team responsible for home devices and Wi-Fi/TV service quality. The company recently migrated to its own network infrastructure and is investing heavily in improving the performance and reliability of customer-premises equipment - routers (CPE) and TV set-top boxes (STB).
This is a hands-on expert role, not a classic network engineer or QA position. The closest description: a device-level Android and kernel debugging specialist who happens to work on WiFi-connected devices - someone who can go deep into logs, understand what's happening under the hood, and solve problems that have no obvious cause.
The role
You'll be the go-to person for Android/platform topics within the team - mentoring colleagues, architecting next-generation STB devices, and evaluating components and vendors. Day-to-day, expect a lot of analysis, debugging, and design work - less clicking through test suites.
Three pillars of the role:
Mentoring - become the team's internal expert and first point of contact for all Android/platform-related topics
Device architecture - technical architecture for next-generation set-top boxes
Component and vendor evaluation - assessing chipsets, technologies, and suppliers
What you'll do
Own the STB test environment for platform-level issues, and draw actionable conclusions
Analyse user-reported issues and identify their root causes - including hard-to-reproduce quality defects
Debug deep inside the Android platform - kernel, drivers, system images - on TV/STB devices
Build test environments and scenarios to detect problems before deployment
Create technical requirements and documentation for devices and the Android platform
Collaborate with device manufacturers and influence how the platform behaves in their solutions
Participate in new device development projects (~8 months) - technical specification, technology evaluation, and go-to-market support
What you bring
Must-have:
Deep Android/kernel expertise - you understand how the kernel, OS framework, and system processes work together, and you can patch a driver yourself
Log analysis (ADB, logcat, kernel logs, Linux tooling)
Deep understanding of device internals - chipsets, drivers, dependencies
Experience creating technical requirements and documentation
Experience working with vendors in an international environment
Polish at B2/C1 level - all client systems are in Polish (required without exception)
English at C1/C2 level - for technical discussions and project management
Nice to have:
WiFi testing experience / familiarity with test tools (Candela, Spirent)
TR-398 / TR-069 or similar standards
Test automation / scripting (any technology)
Experience at vendors, integrators, or in telecom QA
Experience with CPE / STB or similar home devices
Team and working model
You'll join an existing team of WiFi/home device/TV engineers. There's already an STB expert on the team you'll work closely with, as well as a broader CPE team (currently 4 people, growing to 5). The team reports to a manager responsible for home devices and services.
