Application and integration Architect
About the Role
A European institutional client is looking for an Integration Architect to join their IT operations team on a contract basis. You'll serve as the key technical authority on enterprise integration - designing and communicating organisation-wide integration platform architecture, connectors, flows, and service bus solutions across complex hybrid environments.
You'll have previously played a key architect role in at least one enterprise-wide integration platform deployment, ideally within a public sector or EU institutional context.
A personal security clearance is required.
What You'll Do
Architecture Design & Standards
Set standards for design, development, quality, and testing across integration systems
Design and communicate enterprise-wide integration platform architecture, connectors, flows, and service bus solutions
Translate business, user, and technical needs into scalable, secure integration architectures
Map business goals, project benefits, priorities, components, and system features
Identify options for potential solutions and evaluate technologies
Maintain and track architecture across the systems lifecycle
Contribute to the Enterprise Architecture repository and manage required artefacts
Requirements & Analysis
Elicit needs and analyse requirements from business and technical stakeholders
Analyse available systems, applications, and services
Plan capacity and security of integration platform capabilities
Estimate and size network infrastructure in line with system and business application requirements
Collect and interpret system metrics
Optimise systems from performance, security, and quality perspectives
Delivery & Leadership
Lead development teams and development processes
Contribute to systems design, testing, quality assurance, and change management
Prepare system documentation and deliver presentations to varied audiences
What We're Looking For
Technical Knowledge
Proven track record as key architect in at least one enterprise-wide integration platform deployment
Minimum 2 years of experience as an application architect, preferably in a public sector or EU agencies environment
Expert-level knowledge of architecting systems integration at data and API level
Expert-level knowledge of designing enterprise integration platform connectors, flows, and service bus solutions
Excellent knowledge of integration platforms such as Tibco or MuleSoft, SOA, databases, application servers, communication middleware, web applications, cloud integration patterns, business intelligence concepts, and the Software Development Lifecycle
Familiarity with integration patterns, standards, and models
Sound knowledge of hybrid systems and application integration
Familiarity with serverless and containerisation platforms in cloud and on-premises environments
Sound knowledge of UML for systems and application design
Proficiency in systems modelling tools (Sparx Enterprise Architect, ARIS Architect, or similar)
Familiarity with architecture frameworks and standards: TOGAF, Zachman, Azure Well-Architected Framework, or similar
Familiarity with DevSecOps principles
Extensive experience aligning application development with business needs
Nice to Have
Experience with ArchiMate modelling
Experience with the European Interoperability Framework or other interinstitutional frameworks
Experience applying architecture styles and patterns
