Head of Data
- Phoenix
- United States (remote)
About the Role
We're building one of America's leading AI-powered financial wellness platforms - a full-stack money coach helping people build, manage, and grow their financial lives. We're a fast-scaling consumer fintech and we're hiring a Head of Data who is hands-on, analytical, and ready to lead our data function.
This is a builder-analyst role, not a management-heavy one. You'll report directly to the CEO and sit as part of the leadership team - contributing to strategic decisions, not just supporting them. The emphasis is on rolling up your sleeves and running analyses yourself. You'll assess what tools and infrastructure we need, and use AI to do the work of a larger team so we can make faster, sharper decisions without over-hiring.
This is a small-team, non-corporate environment. We move fast, we're direct, and we expect you to own outcomes - not manage processes.
What You'll Do
Own the data function end-to-end - audit current tools, infrastructure, and processes, and build what we need to operate at scale
Lead the data team - this is a hands-on role: you'll run analyses yourself, not just delegate them
Use AI to scale the function - apply AI tools to do work that would otherwise require additional headcount, keeping the team lean as the business grows
Run rigorous, hands-on analysis of large datasets - LTV modelling, cohort analysis, mobile engagement metrics, and attribution across acquisition channels
Translate data into clear, decision-ready outputs - investment-style analyses, briefings, and materials for the CEO and leadership team
Ground major business decisions in data - be the source of truth leadership turns to for insight
Contribute to strategic planning as a member of the leadership team
What We're Looking For
3-5 years of experience in a data-heavy role in a high-growth direct-to-consumer environment - fintech, consumer tech, or mobile app preferred
Hands-on experience with direct-to-consumer metrics: LTV, cohort analysis, mobile engagement, and multi-touch attribution - you've built and owned these, not just read reports
Genuine comfort with analytical tools - you've been in the weeds, not just reading summaries
Strategic mindset - you understand the bigger picture and connect your work to business outcomes; you're ready to sit at the leadership table and influence decisions
Strong opinions on data tooling and AI workflows - and the credibility to back them up
Exceptional communicator - able to distill complex analysis into clear narratives for the CEO and senior stakeholders
Execution-oriented - you don't just identify problems, you fix them
Comfortable in a small, fast-moving team without corporate scaffolding
Based in the U.S., Arizona preferred
