Head of Platform

Employment Type
Full-time

We're looking for a Head of Platform who can own our entire platform stack and actually build things. Not a manager. Not a process person. Someone who has designed systems that survived contact with reality, owns problems end to end - from the first whiteboard sketch to production at scale - and has the scars to prove it.
You'll define the architecture of our platform layer, own its execution, and be accountable for what ships. You'll set the bar for how we build, and you'll raise it continuously.

What You'll Do

  • Platform Architecture & Ownership: Define the architecture of our shared backend layer - GraphQL gateways, graph databases, API infrastructure, internal SDKs - and own it end to end. You don't hand off specs for others to implement; you drive them to production and stay accountable for what comes after.

  • Kubernetes & Multi-Cloud: Own our clusters across AWS and GCP - networking, scaling, security hardening, upgrades, workload orchestration. You designed this kind of thing before, you know the tradeoffs, and you can defend your choices.

  • Backend Engineering: This isn't just an ops role. You'll write production code, Pulumi modules, shared libraries, tooling, automation. You've architected systems at scale and you're still comfortable in the codebase.

  • Legacy Systems: You'll inherit services that weren't designed to scale and make pragmatic calls on what to refactor, rewrite, or replace - then execute. You've done this before and have a framework for it beyond "rewrite everything."

  • Observability & Reliability: Design and build the systems that give squads real visibility as we expand - across hospitals, countries, and regulatory environments. When we onboard a new enterprise client or enter a new market, you've already thought through what breaks.

  • Compliance & Security: Keep us compliant with HIPAA, LGPD, ISO 27001, and whatever comes next as we expand into new geographies. Zero-trust networking, secrets management, audit trails - you own it end to end, not just the checklist.

  • AI-First Everything: You use AI tooling daily and have a genuine point of view on how it changes how platform teams operate. You'll push the org to adopt AI-assisted workflows - in incident response, code review, capacity planning, toil reduction - and you'll lead by example.

What We're Looking For

  • Demonstrable track record of defining architectures that made it to production and held up - not just designed on a whiteboard. You can walk through decisions you made, why you made them, and what you'd do differently.

  • Hardcore backend engineer first. You can read a flame graph, trace a slow query through a GraphQL resolver into a graph DB, and fix it.

  • End-to-end ownership mentality - you've taken hard problems from ambiguous to shipped to stable, without needing someone else to close the loop for you.

  • Experience scaling systems rapidly across multiple regions, orgs, or enterprise clients - you know what breaks when you onboard 10 hospitals at once and you've built for it.

  • Deep Kubernetes expertise in production - multi-cloud preferred.

  • Strong AWS and GCP hands-on experience.

  • You've inherited legacy systems, formed a view quickly, and improved them - not just complained about them.

  • Experience with regulated environments - HIPAA, SOC2, LGPD, GDPR, or equivalent. You know compliance isn't someone else's job.

  • Track record of building observability and incident response systems that scale with the org.

  • Genuine AI-first practitioner - not as a buzzword, but as a daily habit. You've meaningfully changed how you work because of AI tooling and you can articulate exactly how.

  • Bias toward shipping. Fast-moving environment, high ambiguity, strong opinions - you've been there.

Nice to Have

  • Graph databases (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune) in production.

  • Document stores (Firestore, MongoDB) at scale.

  • Healthcare data infrastructure - EHR integrations, FHIR APIs, clinical data pipelines.

  • You've mentored or technically led other engineers without needing a management title to do it.
