RF / Microwave Engineer
The opportunity
A Munich-based deep tech company is developing next-generation datalink platforms for high-performance communications. The engineering team works at the intersection of RF hardware, DSP, antenna design, and software - building systems where performance and reliability are non-negotiable.
The role
As an RF/Microwave Engineer, you'll design, simulate, prototype, and validate RF front-end circuits for high-performance datalink systems operating in sub-6 GHz and microwave frequency bands. You'll develop signal chain architectures including power amplifiers, low-noise amplifiers, mixers, filters, and frequency synthesis stages.
This role combines circuit design, system-level analysis, hands-on lab validation, and automated test development in a fast-paced engineering environment. You'll work closely with antenna, DSP, mechanical, and software teams to deliver complete communication hardware.
All levels welcome - from mid-level to senior.
What you'll do
Design and simulate RF front-end circuits across RF and microwave frequency bands
Develop power amplifier stages, low-noise amplifiers, mixers, filters, and frequency generation circuits
Perform RF cascade analysis: gain, noise figure, linearity, stability, and dynamic range
Conduct link budget analysis and support system-level RF performance optimisation
Create circuit-level and system-level simulations using industry-standard RF design tools
Design schematics and support PCB layout for high-frequency circuits
Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams to integrate RF subsystems into complete datalink systems
Develop validation and production test methodologies for RF hardware
Perform lab characterisation using network analysers, spectrum analysers, signal generators, and related instrumentation
What you bring
Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related discipline
3+ years of industry or research experience in RF/microwave circuit design
Experience designing RF signal chain components: PAs, LNAs, mixers, filters, or PLLs
Strong understanding of impedance matching, S-parameters, noise figure, linearity, stability, and RF system fundamentals
Experience with RF test equipment (VNA, spectrum analyser, signal generator, power meters)
Experience with RF simulation tools such as ADS, AWR, or similar
Bonus:
Experience designing high-linearity or high-efficiency power amplifiers
RF system-level modelling and link analysis experience
Familiarity with digital modulation schemes (QPSK, QAM, APSK) and their RF implications
PCB schematic and layout tools (Altium or equivalent)
Experience developing automated RF test solutions
Background in datalink or high-reliability communication systems
